I'm in the private sector, so I do pretty much whatever people pay me to do. Some people would absolutely hate that, but I enjoy being able to work in different places on lots of different types of projects, learning new things and not having to worry about whether I can get a grant.

Bummer about the money. (There's not a whole lot of it after you graduate either!) If you haven't already, you might look for volunteer opportunities in archaeology. Also, I've worked with a lot of people who came/came back to the field later in life.
