Yes I've read that one as well, and I think he has a lot of insecurity issue. Plus he has had such an awful time with his bipolar, including coming very close to suicide. I've seen him talk about feeling that no one would ever find him attractive.

I tend to think people who are very insecure and think they are unlovable can then put up barriers and come across as cold, I know I've found myself doing this, so I can relate to it. Of course I'm not successful like Stephen Fry, or anywhere near as clever.
