I wasn't trying to imply it was a certainty, just that the way the above commenters presented it made it seem like changing careers is as easy as changing your major in college, which is a total crock. Thing is, people told me when I took the job I have right now exactly what all of these people are telling OP. But I am stuck, have been for years, and even though intellectually I know it's not my fault because I see it happening to my peers too, I can't help feeling in my heart like a complete failure because I've been unable to "just change careers," which is supposed to be this thing that everyone does nowadays. No, OP won't necessarily be stuck in the first career they choose if they hate it, but they might be, and it doesn't do them any favors to pretend it's not a possibility.
