MTE. In every fandom there is at least one person who is just waiting for someone to say something with a vague hint of an "-ist."

When someone says that they don't like a female/POC/LGBTQ character, there is always someone waiting to call them a racist/misogynst/homophobe for it. Someone could post valid reason for not liking a character (bad writing, bad acting, personal taste), but none of that would matter to some of these SJWs.

I hate the idea that hating a character automatically equates to some sort of bigotry on the part of the opinion holder.

It used to bother me, then I realized that all these people just want to pick a fight. So I just note and scroll appropriately.

I agree. There are times when people are honestly being unfair assholes, but often that's not the case. I have seen 'STOP WITH ALL THE -insert female character name here- HATE, YOU GUYS ARE BEING MISOGYNISTIC' despite the fact that those people had valid reasons for disliking the character. It's never going to stop happening but I think in most cases it's best to just avoid it. If someone calls you out about it, explain to them calmly that's not what you meant or where you were coming from, but move on. Some people do just enjoy starting trouble.

Agreed. I swear to God some of them literally scroll through stories/threads (especially ones belonging to certain people) just WAITING for them to say something mildly -ist. Just the other day I left a comment on a girl's post who was from Tasmania saying "You're from Tasmania?! THAT'S SO COOL", and got a response from some SJW calling me a horror show and telling me to stop appropriating.

So, yeah. They don't really need a lot of incentive nowadays.

...wait, what? I can 'understand' if they have said culture fetishization but which part of that can even be twisted into appropriation

....how the hell can even translate to fetishization?

B/

What the fuck is wrong with saying "oh that's cool!!" when it's something you (general you) isn't familiar with?

Hell, I do the same damn thing with people who live in various parts of the states, not just people who live in London, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow, etc.

Damn, is EVERYTHING some how wrong, even an innocent "Wow that's cool!!"?

Shit.

tbh I was actually more interested because I DON'T know anything about the culture and I love learning about things that I don't know/understand, but uh.. maybe that's what they actually meant, I don't know. inb4 I become trans-Tasmanian n.n

Yeah. I know authors who have been badgered for things that their characters have said in anger or events that happened during action or things that are done by the PROTAGONIST. And some of them have folded and re-written their fics into something much less engaging. I'm not just talking about misogyny, which seems to be what most people in the thread are on about. I'm talking about angry characters just yelling insults at one another and the reader getting all angry because someone got insulted.

Honestly, I've seen this across a few fandoms in the last year or so. There's a difference between awareness bringing interesting discussion to problematic aspects of a story and force bleaching dogpiling. Fics are getting very, very vanilla. Even the porn. I see a lot of them lacking in good protagonists, good conflict and anything emotionally engaging. Considering on the net you're bound to get dogpiled for even subtle and believable reactions from characters that drift outside of the completely open minded spectrum, it's getting really dull.
