I wish manga was priced more like tankobons, with it being $3-$4 per volume.

I understand why it's not, but I really think that there would probably be more sales, especially from teens who might not be able to drop $20-$30 at a time for three volumes, but who can spot $10 for two.

DA

From a business standpoint, English manga pricing got to be a really tough call. Translation is fucking expensive, so I totally get the markup, but at the same time, it does take manga out of the price-range for a lot of younger fans. But I'd hate to see English manga go the way of genre fiction, with most of it being sold at a per-copy loss. I don't know, I really just want someone to swoop in and fix the whole English-language publishing industry in a way that benefits creators and fans alike.

Tankobons are no longer $3-4 per volume unless you're buying it used at a BookOff. That might have been the case 3+ years ago, but the latest volume of Detective Conan was $8USD brand new at Kinokuniya; it retails for 440Yen ($5.50USD) in Japan. Deflation of the Yen to Dollar is a huge issue they're trying to stop as Japan needs to be able to export goods.

Now, putting aside economics, considering Kinokuniya is only adding about $2.50 for shipping, maintaining a brick and mortar store and paying their employees so I can buy manga - I don't mind paying the difference at all.

This. I own the entirety of only one manga series because I found a second hand store selling each book for under $5. I bought them all

Anywhere else I'm paying $15 per book if I'm lucky, average price is $23.

For a book I can read in under an hour.

NO.

Honestly I'm slowly losing interest in manga because legally it's really expensive, but illegally I don't like reading online and/or downloading all the pages.

So I'm slowly just...stopping. It's too expensive, and it's not like I am poor. It's too expensive for me, and I'm almost middle income. :/
