I'm younger than most of my fandom friends. I'm starting to see others my age being accepted for being 16 years and it makes me kinda want to admit my real age.
Also don't feel bad, OP, my sister didn't get her license until she was 18 and I'm kinda on that path too because I don't want to pay for driving lessons so I can get my license.

IA. I claim I'm 21, when in fact I just turned 16. I've been faking my age since I was 12, and the acceptance nowdays about fans in their mid teens makes me wish I'd just let it go and admit my actual age.

don't admit your actual age unless you're switching nicknames and cutting all ties made with your current nick

think about it for a sec. what are some things you'd say to a 17 yr old but not to a 12 yr old? sometimes it's not the things you say but the way you'd say things, too. it's possible someone said something age inappropriate to the op that might get them in trouble if op's real age is known. maybe in passing, maybe not to op but in a place op visits often. maybe inappropriateness is not an issue but might still make the people op talk to feel skeeved out.

it's just a lot easier to start again

Well I'd assumed the original anon would have taken the temp of their friend list into account. And at this point I have to question whether the long standing friendships in question aren't worth working through an uncomfortable period rather than just abandoning them to pretend to be someone new.

online presence is permanent. even if you delete your account people save screenshots of the randomest things and poof there is evidence of you being someone else. you can try keeping long standing friendships offline but one slip and you're out. the 12 year old playing 17 year old is a fake identity anyway. even if you tell people, your creditials take a hit because to lie about your age what else did you lie about?

if you really like someone and want to stay friends with them, won't you want to clean the slate and befriend them as who you /really/ are?

Okay online presence is permanent. even if you delete your account people save screenshots of the randomest things and poof there is evidence of you being someone else. this sounds like you are agreeing with me?

As to the rest of your comment you'd have to lie about your shared experiences. The people would feel like they lost a friend and you would constantly have to keep track of what your new account is supposed to know vs. what your old account knew about these people.
