Honestly, most spider bites aren't serious! But if it was in your sleep then... chances are you might have been squashing one a bit. They really only bite when feeling threatened and cornered or when hunting for food, other than that spiders would normally prefer to run. Even the most aggressive spiders only are so when they feel as if they're threatened- it's the same with many other animals, they'll usually try other things (like being all !! aaa and head-bonking you, in the case of bees) before resorting to biting to get away. That's why I'd say if you can see a spider, it's probably no harm to you- it's when you can't or don't notice one and inadvertently threaten it that there could be a problem.

Oh I have no doubt that it was threatened by me... I just wish it had decided that preserving it's venom was more important than biting me -.-
