(Anonymous) 2012-07-17 07:30 am (UTC)(link)This. I love H/C fics, one of my favourite themes - but so often it is not written well or just used as a precursor to sex (which creeps me out honestly, too dubcon for me).
People have this thing with one comfort scene = the persons entire problems filled. I frown at that. Maybe if the one scene was a precursor to more help or therapy or understanding. But if it leaps right into hugs (and typically the character is not a hug liking person) and tears and all I backpeddle away*. It can be H/C without woobifying the character thanks.
But then I prefer my H/C to happen slowly in small ways. i.e. offering a character who typically is ignored a coffee. Not ignoring them. Acknowledging their existence etc. etc.
*Unless it's H/C for a child who is like 5. Granted they may not cry straight away, but I can see it as more likely.

That. I do think injured (physically or psychologically) people can consent, but I think making sure they're in a frame of mind where it's clear they are truly consenting is important.
