Do you dream in third person or first person?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-18 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I've had both, but first person is more common, especially lately.

I don't dream about myself very often, but when I do, it's usually third person.

If I'm myself, it's in first person. But a common dream of mine is that 'I' am someone else (generally fictional characters), and in that case, the perspectives shifts through the dream. By the end though, It'll be either entirely third person (but I'll be there separate from the character), or entirely first, and I'll be back to being me again, with no trace of the character left. Dreams are weird.

I'm almost always in first person, but sometimes I switch points of view. Recently, I started reading a (nonexistent) book in a dream, and then the entire dream went inside the book with me as the MC. (I never act very different, though, so I'm not sure what my subconscious is trying to accomplish.)

95% first person, but occasionally for what seems to be narrative purposes, it pops into third person. Lately my dreams have been having super realistic touch and pain sensations.

Depends on the dream. Sometimes It feels like I'm actually there walking and doing stuff and in other dreams I feel like I'm just floating, sort of watching a movie.

When I dream about myself, it's in first person, but sometimes I have third-person dreams about other people, and it's kind of like I'm watching a movie.

Usually first person, but I often character-jump. (Which can get confusing.)

Both at roughly equal amounts. If it's first person, I tend to perspective-switch a lot.

Both, sometimes at the same time.

I don't dream about myself myself often, though I do dream from a first person POV and think of that person as myself, even though they are someone I don't know. Sometimes I interact with myself myself while I'm someone else. Sometimes I'm multiple people. My dreams can get complicated.

When I was younger, I would always be "me" in my dreams, and it'd be first person. However, as I got older I started taking less of a role in my own dreams, I think? I still have dreams where I'm me, but often I'll have dreams where I'm more of an observer to some plot that unfolds. I suppose that's really still first person - I'm just really passive in that case. :P

Both? I think? I don't know, dreams and memories are confusing because they're not exactly visual but more ideas. It's the idea of a picture, not a real picture. If that even makes sense.

Sometimes I think that in the dream I'm in first person, but upon reflection remembering the dream it's third. Which is kind of how my memories work as well.

First person, always.

First person

and normally it's me but not me. One dream I might be an 8 foot demon god, another i'm blind in one eye and a slave, another one i might be a cat, or a horse, a redneck zombie shooter, a vampire, a fish

I've...never dreamed about myself in third person. I didn't even know that was a thing. (Does that mean you see yourself in the dream, instead of experiencing it as if you were experiencing something irl, from your own perspective?)

ETA: thinking about it that way, there have been moments in my dreams where I see an image of myself in the situation I was dreaming about, as if I'd stepped back for a look. But those are few and far between and...can actually only think of one off the top of my head...

I usually dream in 3rd person and it is like a movie where I have no control over it =/ Though I do rarely dream in first person.

Wait, do people dream in the third person?

0.0

I've never dreamt in the third person--or at least, if I have, I don't remember it at all. Every dream I can remember has been in the first person, and I remember a good number of dreams.
