Sorry, forgot to say, big heaping helping of WORD to part of this in that I don't want anyone to say I'm "wapanese" or whatever they're calling Caucasian Asia enthusiasts these days. Yes, I occasionally use Japanese--correctly, and when the meaning has no PRECISE equivalent in English, and I HAVE taken classes in the language. Yes, I enjoy anime--because the stories are good and the music is spectacular. Why yes, I like J-pop--because it doesn't sound like Western pop, but an evolution and mixture of Europop with rock sensibility and hip-hop flair. And for god's sake, I love Japanese history--because it's just interesting to me after 34875635 years of American history being pounded into my head. Do I think everything about Japan is perfect? No. Do I want to live there and speak the language well? Possibly. Do I want people to shut up and quit calling me bad things because I don't have a cultural superiority complex like MANY Americans? ABSOLUTELY.
I'd also like to know what there people who insult Caucasians and etc. with such terms think of the fact that English is pervasive in Japan, especially in music. Does that make the singers less credible or something? No hypocrisy, please.
/rant that's almost off-topic.
Though, in direct response to the rest of it, none of my Asian friends have ever said anything derogatory about my interests. Go figure.
