Well, people are gonna disagree because rape is a hard topic. Most especially because a lot of people are survivors. But if torturing and murdering people is an ok thing to do in games, I don't see why rape should be treated differently. There's enough erasure going on about sexual abuse in the first place.

I can't speak for everyone else here, but it's your wording in the secret - "I think that she had to have something like this happen to her to make her the Lara we know and love" - that really got on my nerves. The trauma had to be sexual? The other traumas you mention in the secret wouldn't have been enough? And yet male characters with similar "rich kid" backgrounds don't have to have sexual trama before they turn badass? That kind of thinking is sexist.

I think it was definitely my wording. When i said "she had to have something like this happen to her" i was referring to the whole experience. From the plane crash to however it ends.

That's not how the secret comes across at all. The first two-thirds or more are only referring to the attempted rape scene. The rest of the trauma is only mentioned at the end in a way that sounds like an afterthought. I disagree that she necessarily had to have some traumatic event in her life - to me she seemed like a thrill-seeker who had the money and means to indulge her own whims - but saying that she had to have some life changing event is a lot less problematic than saying that trauma had to be sexual in nature.
