It's very different from TDK; TDK is kinda held together by frequent violent stress from Ledger and smouldering sexual drama, and DKR is much more of a long, slow haul; one of the main plot movers describes their plan as 'the slow knife' which is a really good description of it. I enjoyed it but it's definitely not for everyone. If you don't want to sit through a slow patch that's mostly about the police doing one thing and villains doing another thing and Batman being sad, I guess you shouldn't see it. I really thought it was overall wonderful, definitely the best movie I've seen this year.

It's very much about Batman falling out of the spotlight and burning bridges, so if you don't like the Bat very much you might well enjoy the other characters - heroes and villains - gaining prominence. Tbh I think the fact that you didn't enjoy BB might be a bad sign, as it calls back to BB quite a lot; the League of Shadows are in it, and a lot of it is about Bruce withdrawing from Gotham and scruffing around by himself. For obvious reasons they couldn't make as much use of the plot elements from TDK (although Harvey Dent is mentioned quite a lot).
