You want rape in a game? How about torture? Both of those are acts that victimize a person in the most disgusting way imaginable. I can't see myself being entertained by a game that actively features them.

It's entirely different from, say, killing a person, because when you kill a person in a game, they usually have a chance to fight back and try to kill you as well. It's fair in a sense, whereas rape or torture is never ever fair.

'want' is a strange word when we talk about works of fiction. We often want conflict and discomfort and emotional damage in our stories, yes. We want a feeling of threat and a sense that no imaginary holds will be barred. How is this news to you?

It's entirely different from, say, killing a person, because when you kill a person in a game, they usually have a chance to fight back and try to kill you as well. It's fair in a sense, whereas rape or torture is never ever fair. ...What? Of course it's not 'fair'. They're pixel people coded in there specifically so that you can gun them down, what's fair about that?

Your logic, it makes no sense.

They're also coded in there to attack you so you have a reason to defend yourself, thus providing the arguably exciting survival/competition aspect of most games. It's harmless to trivialize death in a game because no player will EVER question the fact that murder is both wrong and a crime.

Trivializing rape or torture in any context, however? Infinitely more damaging.

Lolwat, because low-level grunts are challenging defenders. Are you seriously saying that defence is what makes combat in videogames exciting?

You seem to be assuming that fictionalising something is inherently the same as trivialising it, unless we're talking about killing other human beings, in which case it's all okay with you. Uh, no. Rape, torture and killing can all be handled either well or badly, either realistically or tropily. They aren't inherently different. (Hey, do murder mysteries trivialise murder? The victims rarely fight back, after all.)
