I think fandom might have elements that want to pair Pepper off so Tony's free to be the bicycle, but, tbh, I've also seen a ton of fics where it's not just about freeing them up. Some just ignore it. And the fandom seems really cool with each other's pairings and so I don't see it being as much of a problem as it is in other fandoms.

IA with you, though, that their relationship shouldn't be this easy. I love them to pieces, and I'm happy to see them together, finally, but, really, it shouldn't be this easy. I realize that they can't really explore their issues in The Avengers, but I'm hoping they throw some conflict into IM3 so we can see their characters advance and their relationship evolve.
