Yeah I'm with you. As a rapefic writer, I like that as deliberate trope for basically kink, but just thrown out, not for the angst or the eroticism, but just as a formulaic motivation, that annoys. Rape and attempted rape don't have to define a woman from then on, as the single most important event in her life that eclipses all else. It's almost a backhanded compliment to rape, ala "see what good came out of this!" People can, and do, go on and live normal ordinary lives, post rape, without being destroyed or turned into a superhero. And a woman can be motivated to be strong and successful simply because being strong and successful fucking rocks.
