Ripley in the Aliens saga. So very badass. :D

I never know whether or not to count her as her character was originally written as a man. But I guess you take what you can get!


My little sister's nickname is Ripley because she was a very active baby in the womb and my brother was terrified she was a chestburster and I told him that considering she was related to us it was more likely she was Ripley and it kind of stuck. :D Plus she was very serious eyed and wouldn't smile until she was four. It was very intimidating. She would stare you down until you caved and gave her what she wanted. No tantrums or anything, just creepy sulking.

That's what I like about Ripley's character. If she'd been written to be female, in that time (the late 70s), the odds are very high she'd have been given patent "womanly" concerns like her dear hubby or child or molested by the alien/a bad human on the crew some other irritating BS. The way she turned out in the film, she was just a person trying to do her job and survive. Nice. ^^V

I don't even mind the creation of a daughter in her past or in Newt in the 2nd film, because I think it was handled well. And Ripley was still very badass. The loader-mecha and that flamethrower. *grins*

Ripley is by far the woman character I point to when I'm trying to explain what I would like to see more of in media.
