That link basically says: "Shut up and honor the people who think what you like is PROBLEMATIC. Their discussion and interpretation of the work is the only valid one, therefore you should not try to defend it. Also, if you say you like it in public, ACKNOWLEDGE that people have the right to be assholes to you and you trying to defend yourself or the work is just DERAILING. And that's just disrespectful of the only opinion that counts". Not really useful advice.

I honestly disagree. I don't think it's a comment on "having to find everything problematic" or "you have to agree with finding everything problematic." It's more saying if you find issues with something you enjoy, that it's not a bad thing to keep liking that thing, just own up to the fact your favorite show isn't perfect. People tend to get defensive about the things they like, and other times people will have trouble enjoying things they once did if they realize "oh shit, this has some issues with gender that I disagree with."

It says absolutely nothing about if you don't actually find something problematic that you should find all sorts of issues with it. It instead says that it's OK to like things that are problematic, and if others find things problematic that even though you might disagree you should still listen to others' opinions on things.

So yeah, I do think it's useful advice.

But they don't have to listen to my opinion that it isn't problematic. That's the problem. It's only ever one-way with the people thinking there is a problem automatically being right because they are allowed to be irrational about it and NOT listen to the opinion of those who think its ok.

Also, how does constant self-flagellation over liking something "problematic" in any way useful advice?
