Secondly, do not gloss over the issues or derail conversations about the problematic elements.
Followed by an example about Dune.
No I do not HAVE to listen to anybody's POV, I can totally walk away if I'm not interested. Life is short. I want to choose who I get to spend my time with, especially in my off time. The same way that I avoid street preachers because I already know what they're preaching about.
And if the one thing that you remember from Dune is the fat homosexual villain, you missed so much of the books that you are dumped by default in the "people I don't think are worth my time", because I know where the conversation will stay stuck at.
And by the way, I totally expect people will also do that to me. It's being entitled to think that everybody should give a damn about how you feel about something.
