Yeah, no, sorry. I'm atheist too, but scientology is still ten times more batshit than most of Christianity.

When your "religion" requires you to pay thousands of dollars to move up the hierarchy and preaches that psychiatrists are the source of all of humanity's problems and that they all perpetuate mayhem and murder, then you have a problem.

A fair number of Christians these days do support same sex marriage and that number is rising as time goes on (not to mention that many gay people are Christian. I'm non-religious and a lesbian, but I probably know more gay people who are Christian than not). I'm not saying it's the majority or anything, because I don't have those statistics on hand, but Christianity has evolved over the centuries while Scientology just keeps getting more insane.

Right, and they're essentially going against what their own religion tells them to do. Maybe in a couple of centuries Scientologists won't follow their scriptures as literally as Christians did if their religion is still around then.

Furthermore, as a religious NON-CHRISTIAN who doesn't condone proselytzing or homophobia or condemning "heathens" to hell or any of that bullshit, I'd rather not be lumped in with the crazy Bible-thumping fundies. Not all religion is Christianity, and not all religious people use their beliefs to justify being assholes.

Yeeeaaaah, not every weird ass belief can be compared to Christianity as if to say "durr, well a lot of people believe in God so that's totally the same thing".

There are some Christian cults you could have compared it to though. Maybe David Koresh or something. Or certain sects of Mormonism (both using isolation as a practice) but that still might be a stretch
