(Anonymous) 2012-07-23 12:10 am (UTC)(link)Jurassic Park reminds me of a line in, ironically enough, a Dresden Files short story. Murphy pointing out that seeing Dresden in his full power makes you fully aware of how completely fucked you are against it. Jurassic Park kind of does that, I think. We're supposed to be the top of the food chain and the dinosaurs show up and it's a whole new ballgame. One power failure away from being jello on a spoon.
Jurassic Park is REALLY good at evoking those emotions. Particularly, I think, because they tap into that childhood love of dinosaurs. I've seen that movie dozens of times, but the scene where Alan & Ellie first arrive? They're staring up at the dinosaur and I feel just as awestruck now as when I was a kid and watched it. Same goes for the triceratops scene. Alan's glee is just so infectious.
