Maybe someone will? Sometimes I'll think back on fic I read years ago and go, "Man, that was fantastic." Then I'll find and read it again. If I've already commented I'll usually skip doing so (though on special occasions the fic is so good I'll do it a second time), but sometimes I realize I never did so I'll go ahead and leave one. People remember good stories! Yes, even fanfic.

Did you make this fanart, anon? Because it's absolutely beautiful.

Either way, I'm sure somebody will go back and appreciate your stuff. I go back and read journal entries with fic and meta from fandoms that have been dead for years and geek out over how good the stuff is. Then I wish I'd been around back then, and wonder if the authors are still around. Maybe I should start commenting.

OP

No, I wish. I just grabbed it off google images since a lot of themes the show has about remembering people after they're gone fit the secret.

I guess one of the depressing thing is that I've been in fandom since middle school, and now I'm in college - I know I've gotten better at both art and fic - but it still doesn't seem good enough. Especially with tumblr, it seems like there are so many more talented people than me, younger than me, and it makes me feel a bit old and useless... Though, I suppose it doesn't help that I tend to make a bunch of gen stuff.

Thank you though, for this comment. And thanks to both past and future commenters; I won't be annoying by replying to every single one.

I always comment on years-old stuff if I like it. It being old seems like even more of a reason to comment than usual, as, trufax, there's nothing like someone leaving a comment on a fic you wrote almost ten years ago.

exactly! unless it was a really bad fic you don't ever wanna think about again xp

(Anonymous) 2012-07-24 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds entirely reasonable to me.

Don't worry, if you stick around long enough and keeping producing things and interacting with people, this will probably happen!

...it won't be the things you *want* people to remember you for, it will be the crackfic you dashed off on a drunken Friday night or the stupid argument you got into or the threesome porn doodle with the tentacles or the Lord King Bad Vid or that WIP where you got right up to the big cliffhanger and then lost interest, but there will be *something*.

This is so true. Sometimes it's the tongue-in-cheek intentional bad!fic too, and your "real" fics are delegated to the back burner (or plain cease to exist in the hivemind).

I am very interested the threesome porn doodle with the tentacles. Source please? ;P

Same. If just one person, or a handful of people enjoyed what I write, that's good enough for me.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-24 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, OP. The sad thing about fanfiction is that you can be a very good writer, but if you don't write the subjects that people go crazy for or do something different, you simply won't stand out.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-24 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, it totally could happen. I always think about A.T. Jackson and how cool her stories were (I mean, I not much for original characters, but I loved hers). There are other authors that I feel the same way about. I am always stoked when an author I knew and liked in a previuos fandom shows up in my current one.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-24 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Dear OP, I know precisely how you feel. All I can tell you is not to give up. Keep doing what you love, keep challenging yourself, and you will find that one person.
I second what the above commenter said about people remembering fanfic. I searched for one for literally an entire year because it left such an impression on me (and dragged me kicking and screaming into a new fandom). And I was surprised to discover that my meta posts had impressed a few people enough to remember me and want to make friends. You never know what will grab somebody.

My feelings exactly, OP! :]
