I...want to read that story.

I mean it would have to be written by somebody who *understands* Snape, who can write a *canon* Snape, but. Have you seen many profiles of the kind of people who tend to go off to run wild animal sanctuaries by themselves? They tend to have *very strange* backstories and difficult personalities. It could work! I hearby matchmake this with the other ongoing thread about writing characters into more interesting professions!

...or dude you could do an AU where Hogwarts was a panda sanctuary! And Harry was a panda! :D

Harry was sad. He was an orphan, and in general, orphaned pandas were looked down on by the other pandas with their parents and their accumulated bamboo-wealth and their sophisticated understanding of the ways panda society works.

Harry . . . was alone. Not a stick of bamboo to his name, and the only caretakers he had were the couple on the bottom hierarchy of panda society--Petunia and Vernon along with their disgusting progeny, Dudley. All three were convinced that they weren't really pandas at all but rather chimpanzees forced to warily coexist with the dangerous antics of a Foreign Society. As a consequence, they shoved Harry into a narrow cave to sleep at night and made him gather all their bamboo (of which they allotted him a meager portion) and encouraged Dudley to thwack him with large branches at every turn.

All this changed when He appeared. Harry's life took a definite turn for the better when the greasy, sallow-faced human in the Bermuda shorts and wife-beater strode into the bamboo clearing with a kitten under one arm and a strange and powerful Not!Bamboo stick in the other.
