I CARE ABOUT DEATH GATE CYCLE, NONNY! Those books got me through my first year of high school!

Though I'll freely admit, I'm more of a Haplo fan. Oh, and Hugh. And Marit. Oh man, this takes me back.

Hey man, Haplo's an awesome character, so I get that. ^_^ When I first started reading, I was really leaning towards Hugh as a favorite. Then Alfred was introduced and he stole my heart away ever since.

...I can think of certain scenarios for Alfred/Marit to work. *can't be stopped!*

I'm a big fan of Death Gate Cycle. That's not the secret.

My favorite character is Alfred. That's also not a secret.

What is a secret: Alfred is my very own fandom bicycle.

I pair him up with everyone in the series.

EVERYONE.

From Orla, to Haplo, to Hugh, to Jarre (a dwarf), to Jonathan (A zombie), to Sang-Drax (an evil serpent monster). It's endless.

I'm even thinking about crossover ships too ohgodwhatiswrongwithme.

S!B: 1) Pairing the "balding, cowardly, middle-aged" man of the series with everyone else is kinda weird.

2) No one cares about Death Gate, you loser. :(

My guilty pleasure Death Gate pairing is Drugar x Aleatha. Drugar's shy admiration of Aleatha is just so sweet. I would read fic!!!

BUT ANYWAY THE MAIN POINT IS THAT THE DEATH GATE CYCLE IS FANTASTIC. LOVE IT. THE BEST. I'm convinced if the books had been released during a time when internet fandom actually was a thing, they'd have a large and robust fandom! It's kind of a shame they don't. ;;__;;;

Alfred/Haplo is pretty much my top pairing ever, so I totally understand. XD And yes, Alfred is adorable.

Drugar and Aleatha were my favorites in Elven Star. (And Roland also, to an extent). Fic of them would be awesome!

Oh man, how I wish that had been the case. There's so much in the series for fandom to experiment with, so much fic potential and yet there's not enough on the internet. (And slash, can't forget the slash). I wish they'd just do a re-release of the series, or actually make that RPG they said they were thinking about doing. But at least I can dream. XD;;

I read that series when I was too young to ship.... re-reading it ten years later I was like "WHY DID I NOT SEE ALL THIS POTENTIAL????"

Oh my goodness. I totally did not see this before. I always thought it was Haplo and Hugh who were getting together in a death seeking mensch kinda way...

OMG the Death Gate cycle. So many memories...

Though I have to admit, I didn't start to get really into it until the fire world. It's definitely a series that slowly coaxes its way into the main plot.

Those were the first "high fantasy" novels I ever read. I just reread them and I felt all nostalgic for finding them for the first time :)

I always leave a comment on Death Gate secrets because it remains one of my favourite series I've ever read! <3
I read the books long before I knew what slash or even shipping was, but I'd actually love to reread them now bearing this secret in mind.
(I think if I had been into slash back then I probably would have shipped Haplo/Alfred or Haplo/a human form of his dog in some kind of weird AU.)

This fandom needs so much more love than it gets. I've found very few fiction worth reading and the fanart is mostly rare, but quite lovely.
