OMG. Yes.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I've never had any problem, probably because he himself is never *ever* embarrassed. I just think his antics are hilarious. (Really, the amounts I giggle can't be healthy...) But I guess if you've got a squick, some of the things he does - or the stories he tells - could rub you the wrong way.

Agreed. His convention antics always make me blush - and not in a good way. I still adore his singing voice and Jack Harkness but yeah.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-25 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Who is this? He does look kinda embarrassing, but I don't recognize him.

John Barrowman, best know as Capt. Jack Harkness from Doctor Who and Torchwood.

John Barrowman.

Always, OP. Always. I love the man but god I can't stand to actually watch anything but scripted stuff.

So much this. I got interested in Barrowman through Doctor Who and Torchwood, and later found I also like his singing. But as a person, I just find him so jarring/over-the-top/hyperactive sometimes.

lol, same.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-25 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
But he's never embarrassed? And I don't remember him ever embarrassing anyone else? Am I missing something here?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-25 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the OP's misusing the word "squick". Being embarrassed by a show =/= being squicked.

I think the OP was referring to second-hand embarrassment, where a viewer/reader becomes embarrassed by a person or character in what they're watching/reading.

I like him too but I've gotta agree. IDK what it is either...

He hosted the comic con event on G4 recently (that and E3 are the only times I watch anymore) and there was so much secondhand embarrassment. I can't explain it and he's a fun guy so I feel guilty for feeling that way.

i feel that way about most the celebrities i like, to be honest haha. i cant watch interviews because it makes me cringe and i just want to yell at them to stop whatever it is theyre doing.

He reminds me of me when I was younger and still clueless about my antics being a source of embarrassment for anyone but oblivious me. I read somewhere that one of the symptoms of my condition is a lack of understanding of shameful consequences. So I figured it was all right because even though I was supposed to feel ashamed I wasn't feeling it and no harm was done.

What exactly does he do?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who knows nothing about this guy, but is curious, what kind of squicky/embarrassing/whatever things does he do/say?

Dear John

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I get what the OP is saying here. Totally. But I think, for me, it's his arrogance that is the most bothersome. You're not that great an actor or singer dude. Tone it down a bit. (although, I'd rather deal with JB than his fans ANY day)

The only thing that I've ever seen him in that wasn't Doctor Who or seasons one and two of Torchwood where I really liked him was in his documentary, "The Making of Me." It was an open and vulnerable piece, and should be seen by just about everyone.

Those shiny suits! It's horrific. I think he's sweet and I like how his shows have a good heart, but they really do also make me cringe. When he does that thing of dressing up to fool some member of the public I think he's actually really good, and convincing, but the man clearly has no ability to ever be embarrassed.

I've seen him on stage in West End musicals, and he is very good, no need to feel embarrassed then.
