Agreed so fucking hard. Gay, straight, bi, pan, ace, whatthefuckever, it's no one's business but their own until and unless they choose to make it so.

You know, I have to sort of agree.

I think the whole "they can't be straight" is sort of problematic, because it implied that there is a certain way that a straight man should be, which is bullshit. I had a teacher who I'd describe as bordering on camp, who had a wife and kids - and sure, he might have been deep in the closet, but you know, he might have been in a appy marriage too, and it just sucks to assume.

There are very butch gay men, and very effeminate straight men.

I agree with what you say. All idols are playing a character, so to judge their sexuality off of it is extra stupidity on top of just guessing someone's sexuality from personality traits.

I've heard rumors about Amber being seen dating girls pre-f(x), though? IDK if they are true or if that was just a wishful fangirl.

Given her background, I am highly skeptical of any claims of Amber dating girls pre-f(x). She's from Orange County, and she's talked fondly of her church community back home in interviews. I grew up in Orange County, and I lived there for part of college. Orange County Christians are the sort who earnestly say shit like "It just makes me so sad that you're going to go to hell for being gay, because you're a really nice person." If she'd been dating girls in Orange County, chances are she would not have such a great relationship with her church community.

I agree. There's an actor named Wentworth Miller and the assumptions and arguments about his sexuality are very gross (he's so gay because -stereotype- VS he can't be gay cuz he's ~sexy~). Jesus, people. Leave the man alone.

What? Really? Doesn't he have a wife and a child lol

[personal profile] naturedichotomy 2012-07-26 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed! Especially these three.... I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if they came out as gay, but I wouldn't be surprised by them being straight either.
Stereotypes do not a sexuality make.
Speaking as a queer member of the kpop fandom, though, I can understand clinging to the idea of just one of our idols coming out oh please oh please.

AGREE. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person in the entire kpop fandom who thinks Kwon, Amber, Key, and Heechul could be straight.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
I feel you!

People say that about Kwon ALL THE TIME, and I'm like "...did you watch We Got Married? Because I'm pretty sure he wanted in Ga-In's pants hardcore."

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. You can have your personal opinions on someone's sexuality, but you can't definitively say what someone is or isn't and to do so is just as bad as saying someone can't be gay.

Of course, there are a lot of instances where it's okay among "openminded" people to say things about heterosexuals or having to do with heterosexuality that would be considered absolutely homophobic if they were about gays. Like "s/he doesn't know it yet" about an identified straight person. You couldn't say "s/he doesn't know it yet" about a gay person!

I'm not familiar with any of these people, but I agree with the general sentiment.

I was having a conversation about this the other day with my dad. There's a really effeminate family friend who has a wife and two kids, and pretty much every person I know who also knows him assumes he's deep in the closet. Of course, that's a possibility, but it's also possible that he's straight. Everyone acts like that's just impossible, though, I don't get it.

lol. story of my fandoms. especially kpop. fans are crazy and most of the time get way into their heads

Quite. I don't know these people either but it's so prevalent in superhero movie fandoms. It's so intrusive and gross. Especially if they are married and have kids and they are still insistent that they ~must~ be gay because they hugged each other or something. Seriously? Men can't hug each other unless they are gay? You're playing right into homophobic logic. Good job.
