I admit, I attempted to watch Wallander for Hiddles. I was curious to see what the fangirls were on about. But that show depressed the shit out of me. Even for a crime drama, which I dearly love, it was too depressing!

I agree, OP. I like Hiddleston as an actor, but Wallander should be enjoyed for the entire cast, not just him. Branagh is especially amazing in the UK version. I need to have a look at the Swedish incarnation.

.... Is there a Wallander fandom? Is the fic any good?

I haven't read the books or seen the previous TV shows, despite being Swedish, but my Hiddles-fangirl friend made me watch the Branagh version last week and I absolutely loved it. It's extremely good, and he's so good in it.

It's got to be an improvement over the books. Someone recommended them, so I picked up The Fifth Woman. I was excited, because the premise sounded good, but the writing was just so painfully boring and plodding. I've heard lots of books that I enjoy called boring by various people, so I think I have a high tolerance for what I think of as "slow prose." But Mankell's writing was some of the most tedious I've ever seen.

From what I saw of it, it should really be called "Wallander becomes more and more depressed every minute!" Kenneth Brannagh is an amazing actor and I love him, but I don't think this show is for me, haha.

I will admit I began to watch the Branagh version for Tom Hiddleston (I don't tend to watch many mysteries/crime dramas unless there is an interesting story that connects them all) but Branagh and the rest of the cast were so great! Ha ha, I actually forget Hiddleston's character exists sometimes until he's actually on screen.

i started watching the kenneth branagh version, and i LOVE it.

I watched Wallander initially for Hiddleston, but enjoyed the show immensely for itself. I like it & hope they eventually make more of it, even if Hiddleston can't be in it.

No, Loki is not a poor misunderstood woobie, he's a villain with a well-rounded and believable backstory that we can sympathize with but not one that justifies the extremity of his later actions.

(Oh, and Thor is not just a dumb jock who speaks solely in Shakespearean allcaps. Especially in anything set after the movie named after him - you know, the one about HIS heroic arc and not the fall of poor, put-upon, genocidal, fratricidal Loki?)

Yes, Hiddleston the actor is symmetrical and charming but he's not perfect, because he's a human being and nobody is "flawless."

Stop, fandom. Just stop.
