I refuse to watch any movie in which I know a dog dies. Childish? Yup. Do I regret not experiencing the absolute gutchurning misery it saves me? Nope.

naw, don't worry

when I was little my mom refused to let me read or watch adaptations of White Fang

this annoyed me until I grew up and read the summary and then I was very, very grateful to mom

Same. That goes for books, too. I always flip to the end to see if the animal is still alive.

+1. I'm really annoyed by stories like that -- I'm not familiar with this particular work, but I know there's an entire genre of children's literature that I like to call, "And Then The Dog Dies," which I hate so much. I really don't need that in my life, tyvm.

I'm at the point where, if there's a movie starring a cute or otherwise sympathetic animal, I won't go see it until someone else who's seen it tells me whether the animal lives or not. It's one case where I'm actively and strongly in favor of spoilers.

Are you me? When I was a kid, my mom and I decided that "heartwarming" in animal movie synopses was code for "and then the dog dies" and it seems to be generally a safe assumption. DNW.

Animal deaths get me every goddamn time.

Dogs are a punch below the belt.

A dog dies...? :'(

I do not handle that well.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-28 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, after all the shit that happened to the main characters, I forgot all about the accidental death of the dog. It was a pretty brutal film.

This!

[SPOILER] Michael Fassbender's tongue is cut out with a boxcutter and a young boy is set on fire, among a lot of other nasty shit, and OP is worried about a savage chav dog dying?

O.o

(Anonymous) 2012-07-28 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
savage chav dog?

Haven't seen the movie.
But it's a wide spread phenomenon that most people draw the line when it comes to animal death (although the death of a child is on par with it most of the time).

Maybe it's because animals and children are "pure" and trusting.

Personally, I'm sad when a child dies, but I start to bawl like crazy when a dog dies. Why? Because I have never experienced the loss of a child, but I've seen my own dog die wa before his time and to this day I'm still able to relive every fucking second of it.
So yeah, animal death before everything else for me.

Uh, this. Actually until I saw this secret I didn't even remember there were dogs in this movie.

I don't even know shit about this and just knowing Bonnie's never coming back to her bowl is making me sad. Damn.
