Re: Most Interesting Job You've Had?

I'll tell a couple. :) First off, I have to say that American Girl was a GREAT place to work for and that I'm super positive about the company, legitimately. It was also rewarding in a really interesting way; we got a bunch of dolls in the salon that their owners assumed were lost causes, hair wise, but even though some dolls took over an hour to do their hair it ended up being much better than they thought we could get it.

Since the store is only in the US and the Mall of America is also a tourist destination, we got some people from outside of the country who came JUST to see the store. It was kind of crazy to be talking to people and find out they came from Norway just to see the American Girl Store!

While we were a store that catered to kids, honestly the people that were the most "misbehaved" were the parents, if the parents didn't want to be there and were grumpy. The girls who came in with their dolls were incredibly well behaved and I can't even remember any major tantrums, which surprised me.

My best day I've ever worked at any job was the day that we went through "party" training. Since the store is kind of a destination in itself, it hosts parties, and so management decided that we should go through some training for it, which ended up being taking individuals from multiple sections of the store and having a mock party. So we played the party game 8 year old girls do, made the craft, and had pizza and birthday cake while at the store.

One of the most interesting aspects of my job that I kind of LOVED was piercing doll ears. However, since the instrument we used to do it was a drill that was kind of big and scary (and we had to hold the doll in kind of an awkward position to do it) we would do it in our back room. If a girl asked why we were doing it in the back room, our standard answer would be something like "oh, she's a bit nervous to have you watching her get her ears pierced, so we're going to do it in the back."

It was a ridiculously fun and great job. :)

I am officially jealous as hell. (Or should that be jelly? LOL)

It sounds like that job was mostly a joy.

(And I am not at all surprised that the parents were the ones most often showing their asses. As a college prof, that's been my experience, too.)
