I'm willing to bet they'd be completely different characters. Still, going with the above anon way upthread in that they're probably both still sexist.

And yet Whedon still has the advantage of writing varied characters in general. Seriously, Inara would totally be spouting off little one-liners or catchphrases ("hello sweetie!" "i know what he likes"), and Mal would be yet another Doctor expy making note of the funny brains around him if, let's say, Moffat was doing a whole rewrite of Firefly. I'm not saying his work isn't fun, but it has a tendency to retread and retread and retread his character archetypes.
