Baldur's Gate Expanded Edition

Who else is going to play it? Comes out Sept 21st, and at that point I may as well just toss away weeks of my life, I CAN'T WAIT. (They've got preorders for $17.99 rn - it'll be $19.99 when it's released).

I've been lurking on the BG forums lately and I'm genuinely touched by what's happening - devs getting down with oldfans, modders and bugpatchers, being straightforward about what they can and can't fix, asking people what they'd want to see in DLC. There's so much goodwill. The new character bios have caused shipwank already, and shipwank on a nearly-all-male fansite is always hilarious.

I'm definitely going to play it! I've... never actually played Baldur's Gate, actually, so I'm super excited about remedying that.

(I don't actually know why I've never played it. The first RPG I ever played was Icewind Dale, which I loved, but I never went and played Baldur's Gate after that even. Later on I got hooked on Bioware with Neverwinter Nights... but I still didn't go back to try Baldur's Gate. IDGI.)

((Also, this seems like as good a place to ask as any - is it still using 2nd Edition AD&D rules, or did it get an "upgrade" there as well?))

Still 2ed. The devs have said that they're mostly not able to change the original content much because all the source art assets were lost (see what I mean about them being level with the fandom - they are so awesome). They're doing technical shit like making it be supported on modern OSes (including iPad) with multi-platform multiplayer, changing the resolution, fixing a whole bunch of bugs, and changing the old CGI animations for new hand-drawn ones, but mostly they're working on several new areas and quests and three new characters (all romanceable, one of them is bi but they won't say which - as there's two new guys and one new lady it would only make sense if it was one of the guys though).
