Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with captchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

So, the real reason I'm wary of meeting my fandom friends IRL? I've tried and they did judge me for my appearance.

I'm pretty sure OP doesn't, but just a few secrets up someone admitted to feeling superior over overweight fans.

I'd hate to think my body makes anyone else feel superior to me.

Did you shower before meeting them? Remember to brush your teeth and comb your hair and put on deodorant? Because I've met fans IRL who did not do all that and yeah, I totally judged them on it and didn't want to hang out with them much.

If you mean they judged you because you're "ugly" or "fat" or something, then that blows. Sorry.

honestly, this

not to say that there aren't fandom people who are judging and shallow as all get out out there, but if you're visibly taking care of yourself at least on the hygiene side and are respectful of the people around you (don't yell indoors, don't lick people, listen politely, don't make all conversations and topics ~all about you~ and what you like, don't push what you want to do on everyone else, that sort of thing), you should do fine

Ugh wtf.

I've had some times when I've vibed with somebody better online than off - ie they're less talkative or it's just really awkward between us, in a way that's unexpected because online we chatted along nicely.

But to judge somebody for their appearance is fucked up, especially after you've engaged with their mind.

tl;dr people are assholes. Don't let it stop you making new friends, anon.

Did they tell you that? Unless you have like an obvious disfigurement and they stared the fuck out of it, how do you know that is why? Maybe you were awkward irl due to insecurity and they felt you didn't like THEM. Maybe you have really annoying way of talking or don't know how to take a hint that you are talking about things no one is actually interested in.
Those are just some of the things I've come across in meeting online friends IRL, so.

I've had good and bad experiences meeting fandom ppl IRL. The bad usually did have something to do with them judging me based on appearance (it couldn't have been more obvious unless they'd written it on their forehead) but as uncomfortable and frustrating and demeaning those experiences were, I'm glad I met them because I don't need friends like that on or offline.

Likewise. I've had quite a few ask me and I use some excuse but I'm very fragile and in ed recovery and I'm terrified that they'll think I'm hideous or mock me.

I'm so sorry about that. You didn't trade pictures, first? I couldn't meet anyone I hadn't traded recent, full-body pictures with so they could do all their judging when they're not actually in my face.
