I watched for five seasons and I was never aware it was that bad, though I was aware of the weird "lol gay people don't exist thing" early on. But squeaky-clean family sitcoms were my bread-and-butter at that time, so 7th Heaven was just an hour-long version of that. Ruthie was cute until they swapped her brain with some kind of carnivorous reptile when she hit puberty. Simon was my baby, if I'd been in fandom then, I would have enjoyed having him come out to his family in fanfic, and then maybe running away from home to live with Mary when all the sanctimonious bullshit got to be too much for him, and Mary would be like "told you so".
