I'm not even that much of a fanartist or fanfic writer, but the lack of credit on tumblr annoys me sometimes. Mostly when I want to know the source and no one has it.

yeah, you wind up having to have a lot of followers or using tags smartly to make it so your question moves so far that someone who is familiar sees it,

or maybe with reverse image search engines, but those aren't a guarantee
