Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.
Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with captchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.
That's about it, though!
I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-30 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)Now, if it's someone who isn't really planning on going through with it and keeps doing this for months of years (often out of legitimate mental issues, but that's a reason, not an excuse), I get the annoyance, because they're painting all depressed and/or suicidal people with the same "is this person for real or just hungry for attention" brush, but just taking a moment to say something kind and try to encourage them not to do it is only taking you time; if it turns out to be fake, you're only out of time and maybe pride at yourself for being tricked...
I guess that's what it's about, isn't it?
It hurts to admit that you fell for someone's lies. And that's understandable, but there are honestly so many people doing crappy things out there that if it's just words on the internet it's better to just let go and focus your attention on people and things that are really worth it.
I know the temptation of telling everyone "this is a fake!" when you find out, but the best is to just let that solve itself.
Warnings can backfire if it turns out you're wrong; when to warn people is something of a judgement call, but if you try to distance yourself from it you'll think clearly and be able to spot clues and hints on whether, say, those donations are going towards something skeevy.
It's not very black and white, but I get your frustration! Please don't think I don't.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-31 04:33 am (UTC)(link)I just play it safe and try not to be shitty in general, especially in this case, because you never know, right?
(Victim-blaming pisses me off in general, so I prefer to risk feeling sympathy for a fake than risking making someone in a bad situation feel even worse.)
But yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if your numbers are right.
