F!S Anon Meme (the Seventh, and now on DW!)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with captchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff.

L. M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables series was my favourite when I was in middle school, don't know how it looks through the eyes of an adult though.

Hotaru no Hikari, a j-drama about a girl who at work pretends to be super-feminine and graceful like a ~proper woman~ is expected to be but is secretly a total dork who fails at romance.

The Tenth Kingdom - both the protagonist and the villain are women, and totally awesome too.

Downton Abbey is not strictly speaking female-centric, but the cast is full of great women.

Michiko to Hatchin - from wiki: "The title's Michiko is a free-willed "sexy diva" who escapes from a supposedly inescapable prison fortress, while Hatchin is a girl fleeing her abusive foster family. The two join forces on an improbable escape to freedom".

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - the title says it all, female protagonist + good sci-fi = one of the best anime movies ever.

Kon Satoshi's Paprika and Perfect Blue have female leads (as must Millenium Actress, but I haven't seen this one). Warning: absolute mindfuck.

SA

I forgot to say not all are good and not all have fandoms.

Anon, I have to agree with your addendum. Not all of those series are very good. I would actually call at least half of those downright bad, but that might be a YMMV thing.

With anime I think you have to be careful with reccing stuff. Because just because it's female-centric or even has an all-female cast, doesn't mean that it's not otaku-pandering sexist crap. There's a lot of anime out there with an all-female cast that still manages to completely suck at presenting interesting female characters or having good writing.

AYRT

I watched most of them for specific tropes and I thought they were decent, if not great, for female-centric anime with those tropes. The only ones I haven't watched were Marie & Gali (not my animation style) and Koihime Musou (RotTK genderbending rehash? No). There are only a few I'd absolutely watch again, not because the rest are shit but because I'm not in the mood for them.

Maybe I have a high threshhold for mediocre anime.

NAYRT

I think you do, too. Possibly too high, considering that with the sheer amount of female-centric anime out there, why waste your time on mediocre anime when for any given trope that you want to see a female-centric spin on, there are probably quite a few better anime out there?

And "decent, if not great" is far, far too nice a description of crap like Strike Witches.

I have been rereading the Anne books. And while they aren't as good as I remember, I'm still quite enjoying them. Anne/Gilbert was my first ship, before I even knew what shipping was. And I'm still in love with the pairing.

I really need to rewatch the first two miniseries' (third one, what third one?).
