Oh, anon, you are not alone in this. Fellow biologist with this same questionable fascination. It's not so much something that gets me off as it is a combination of a lot of things I like a little too much, especially if the writer clearly did some research and gets their science correct. Makes my id happy in ways I try not to contemplate too much.

At least I've got somebody to keep me company on this ride to hell. You can call shotgun if you like.
