Yeah, me too. Sometimes I even feel tempted to rec my own fics. I've yet to do either, but still... :\

(Anonymous) 2012-07-31 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate when I've written a fic that would fill the request perfectly but can't bear to self-rec. It's worse because all my fandoms are tiny so I'd be outing myself if I did it.

OP

Yes! This, exactly. I've held off on reccing my fics several times now (and for different small fandom fic rec threads, too).

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
...aaand I guess that makes it even sadder, given that there are some small fandom rec threads where my fic could already conceivably have been recced and wasn't. Ah well.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
as a reader, i appreciate it when author's self-rec in certain cases. obviously it's a bit weird (and pointless) if they're saying 'read my fic, it's awesome!' but if someone's looking for something specific, i think it makes sense to drop your fic and say 'hey, my fic has in it what you're looking for'.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-31 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit that I watch the subthreads where I might conceivably be recced. Hasn't happened yet though. I won't rec myself because I'm paranoid that that would be the one time I anon-failed.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-03 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
You could always ask the mod team to banhammer you so you can't anonfail.

I hear it's a great solution.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-31 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's natural to want to see your stuff recced by a complete stranger. I do the same thing, particularly when one of my fics perfectly fits the bill. It hasn't happened yet, but I remain ever hopeful.

B!comment: This is also why I lurk on ffrants. I keep hoping someone will mention one of my fics as a shining example of how to do something right. :D

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I rec a lot of fic for various communities (general and fandom-specific rec comms), and I haven't seen my stuff recced yet. If my stuff has been recced, though, it's not in any of my current fandoms.

Heh. I don't mind outing myself. I'd love to see my stuff recced. I think my fic is good, so I feel surprised I've rarely seen it. Especially given some of the stuff people rec over and over. I always watch when someone mentions things I write about, and feel more disappointed than I should when no one recs.

Hm. Fic recs are neat, I guess, but I don't really see the point if you're already posting yours on a site like ff.net &/or on a fandom comm, because that means people still have the opportunity to read it.

But to each his own I guess. Hope your fic gets recced! Good luck.

I suspect OP wants to know what specific people here think or just wants to expand their fanbase. There's a difference between getting a review from someone you're not really familiar with and a cool person you've seen around.

Also on a reread it sounds like they hope a couple of people here already know and value their work.

I've wanted to do this too~ Back when I was in the Harry Potter fandom, I got recced and quoted and stuff.... It was addictive, and I miss it :|

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
lol, i've done this

didn't work, though, no one rec'd any of my fics :(

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've done this. It didn't work and I got the usual recs for the usual fics even though I said I didn't want the usual fic recs thanks.

I couldn't rec myself in case someone came in and said that they had read that fic and it sucked. That would put me off writing forever!
