pda

oh man I'm in this communal study space right now and there is this couple next to me just sitting there are kissing like all the time. These people opposite them made these hilariously disgusted faces at them before.
Anyway is anyone else super weirded out by PDA or is it just me? and.. those other two people?
It makes me feel really awkward and I have pretty much no desire to engage in it myself (and I mean even the most innocuous of stuff like holding hands).

uh yeah what are your thoughts fs? This is pretty random but I guess I felt like starting a random thread for fun and profit. whoo

I really don't like seeing pda if it crosses over the light stuff (like pecks on the lips/cheeks or hand-holding). It makes me super uncomfortable.

Idk why.

Nope. I hate PDA. I think it's rude. Yes, it's awesome that two people are in love but, really, no one wants to see three steps away from heavy petting in the library. I think it's just people trying to get attention.

Generally it has very little to do with "love" persay.

per se

not persay, per say, per see...

If it interferes with one's day so severely that they cant seem to get anything done...then it's annoying.

But I dislike PDA in general. I don't even like private displays of affection.

Nope! I'm the same - I don't really enjoy watching it, and I tend to not do it when I'm in public [beyond like...hand holding and that type of thing]. It's great people are in love...but it's not so great to make the people around you feel awkward, and potentially make the people you're hanging out with feel awkward/like you'd rather not be hanging with them.

Re: pda

It irks me. I don't mind seeing couples kissing, but french kissing your girlfriend while in a bus so hard everyone around you can hear the wet smacks of your mouth/tongue is not okay.

(This actually happened to me. I looked away the whole time but I couldn't ignore those sounds. Awkward.)

Re: pda

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Deep kisses are fine with me, it's when the couple in question starts getting handsy ( re: ass-grabbing, feeling each other up ) that I start to feel uncomfortable, otherwise, I could care less. I actually enjoy watching them because it generally deters most people when they have an intent audience member such as myself.

If it's PDA like holding hands or a quick kiss of whatever I don't care, but making out and beyond? No thank you.

In my high school if people tried to make out, the teachers would walk through them. It was so hilarious.

(though ffsst, i never ate lunch in hs, so i didn't even think of the food aspect lol)

man in my high school there was this couple that would hardcore make out in the classroom during free time while everyone else was there too. Gross on itself, except that the guy sometimes opened his eyes and stared at people :|

it was awful

I'm sorry, that last bit made me laugh.

Sorry. D:

I watched a couple make out through an entire concert. Everyone was standing and dancing and they stayed in their chairs the whole time. WTF?

Doesn't bother me. But, since I'm a major perpetrator of hardcore PDA, it'd be a little hypocritical of me to be irritated.

("Look, I'd be the first to admit I don't have an ounce of common sense, but I think people should be fucking in the streets. Ass fucking. Especially women- fucking men in the ass with dildos.")

Re: pda

I almost wrecked my car once while driving on the highway past the local job center because the PDA was so unexpected and over the top. Boy and girl hardcore necking in the parking lot right next to the road--his hands clamped on her ass, one of her legs wrapped around his hip, eating one another's faces out.

Re: pda

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really mind it unless it's like, too over the top. If I see a couple getting a little too friendly, I just look away and ignore. They're the ones making fools out of themselves in public, no reason to feel embarrassed myself.

I don't mind hand-holding, people holding each other while walking, brief hugging, brief kisses (you know, like when couples kiss on greeting each other) but anything beyond that is rude IMO. I don't think I'm in the minority there.

I like seeing couples holding hands and walking together though, it's one of the few things that always makes me smile (unless the couple are like, annoying dickbags but that's rare). If it's a same sex couple I feel a bit self-conscious about smiling though because I don't want them to think I'm paying attention to them just because they're gay (I smile anyway but I always think that in the back of my mind)

I'm a cashier, and one time this straight couple was making out in my line. There were like three people in front of them and my backup cashier was nowhere to be found so I couldn't get rid of them. I had just been dumped too, so in addition to being really uncomfortable it also depressed me. I guess it bothers me more in a situation like that, where I can't do anything to get away (kind of feels like I'm being forced to be part of their foreplay tbh), but I do find it pretty gross even when I'm able to leave.

I have no problem with holding hands, though. I do this all the time even with my friends. I'm pretty huggy, too.

Re: pda

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I hate it. And when cashiers at stores ignore you (customer) while they flirt. Come on just scan my items already and get back to your flirting without an audience!! ugh

Re: pda

(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
When my older sister got her first (acknowledged to parents) bf, my Mom gave a rundown of what was and was not acceptable. Basically it came down to "Do you really want to play sex chicken with the 40+ year olds with little to no shame that conceived you?"

Oh, and 'hands above the blanket.'

I'm pretty cool with most PDAs. Some people go overboard, but it's not that often. My line is usually clothed sex for people I'm not interacting with and long kisses for people I am. That's more politeness than dislike of PDA, though. I'd be mad if they were texting the whole time we were talking too.

Then again, I will stand behind my sister, put my chin on her shoulder, wrap my arms around her waist, and just cuddle. It's common enough that people who know us don't even blink when I do it. I'm just a tactile person.
