Re: "99% of our users don't use subject lines"
(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 04:57 am (UTC)(link)Sadly, I remember someone finding out that the same people who own LJ now also own a very, very lucrative shopping service somewhere on Asia (Thailand, maybe? I honestly don't remember the country, sorry), and that the earnings from LJ (both in ads and paid services by users) were nothing compared to what the shopping service was pulling in, so they basically could ruin the whole of LJ and wouldn't suffer for it.
Also, the Russian side of the LJ userbase doesn't have many other places to choose from that won't censor them like crazy, and they used LJ like a facebook of sorts rather than the community/blogging/fandom way we use it, so they didn't mind or even liked the changes. :(
Re: "99% of our users don't use subject lines"
(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 05:05 am (UTC)(link)And damn, okay... that's kind of depressing. I had been on LJ for eight years before leaving for DW (I still have an account there, for the few friends who haven't moved over, but I barely use it), so it has been a bit depressing watching it steadily decline.
