(Anonymous) 2012-08-01 06:40 am (UTC)(link)The Prospector was inherently bitter about the fact that no child wanted to play with him. He was an uninteresting toy that was mint in the box because no one ever bought him. That in itself makes me feel sorry for him considering he's never been loved or even touched by a child. When he ends up in that little girl's backpack, I actually got the feeling that he could end up being happy in her hands (eventually).
Lotso on the other hand WAS loved by a child, and then forgotten and replaced. That messed him up deeply because unlike the Prospector (who couldn't miss what he never had), he was constantly thinking about how much he loved that little girl and how devastated he was when he discovered she'd moved on. He's never going to recover from that, which makes him more tragic and more evil that the Prospector ever was.
