It was GLORIOUS.
See, Nickelodeon had this annoying habit of not really scheduling episodes of Avatar all that well. It was already infamous for having long hiatuses in the middle of seasons and packaging two or three episodes together to broadcast them at the same time and scheduling Avatar but then broadcasting something else. Anyway, for Season Three, they did this thing where they broadcasted half the season (Episodes 1-11) starting in September and ending in December and then going on hiatus for seven months until they broadcast the last half of the season in JULY, on consecutive nights, in one week.
But! Episodes 12 and 13 got broadcast on Canadian TV before they were broadcast in the US. Episodes 14 and 15 got released on DVD before they were broadcast anywhere. (This one poor girl who worked at Blockbuster got an advance copy and in her naive excitement decided to share a couple summaries with the people of capslock_atla. They ate her alive, slamming her with accusations of lying and making things up to get attention, ordering her to rip the whole episodes and put them online for them, basically running her out of the fandom just because she gave accurate summaries of the upcoming episodes.)
Oh oh and also! A junior novelization of the series finale came out IN MAY before the rest of the season was aired. The fandom exploded. You had people-mostly Zutarians-claiming that the book was an OBVIOUS HOAX and FULL OF LIES and the real finale would be totally different. There were ESSAYS about this shit.
It was amazing.
