also gay, also know the bottom/top dynamics in the gay community, and i'm still offended that because i'm the shorter guy in my relationship i can't possible 'be seme' according to this dynamic. and that's the thing for me.

it's really subtle and nuanced, but by the uke/seme dynamic, bottoming makes me a woobie who can't take agency in my own receptive role in sex and there's a lot of history of these roles in the gay community.

it's the assumptions people take from uke/seme dynamics and then transplant it onto top/bottom as though that's not a problematic fit that's the issue, to me. i mean, sure, do what you want, enjoy what you want, express what you want, but your experience is not everyone's. as long as people understand that? i got no problem how and when they do their uke/seme stuff, just as long as it doesn't get pasted onto me and the sex/relationship i have.

I don't think that's always true in yaoi anymore. Of course the traditional yaoi "aesthetic" is twink!uke, but there are more and more yaoi-genre comics that include taller ukes, older ukes, ukes who don't look like they'd be the uke... as the "genre" or whatever grows, more people are switching it up. I seem to remember in the famous Junjou Romantica (or however it's spelled) one of the featured couples features a younger, more innocent acting seme, for example. anyway, obviously no one should be using yaoi as a basis for judging gay people, but that's not yaoi's fault, that's stupid people's fault.
