Hahahah in your defense I still remember the "they're not gay!!!" contingent from the good old days.

Face licking is very heterosexual. My brothers do it with their guy buddies all the time! Then they go out in the yard and throw the ball around.

I remember that time, too.

"Kamui"/Kamui, yeah, that is like softporn seme/uke. Fuuma/Kamui and Seishirou/Subaru, no, I think saying it's canon one of them is seme and the other uke and one would therefore top and the other bottom simply because one is taller and more muscular ... that's going way too far. Besides, in X times, Subaru's trying to find Seishirou, not the other way around. So much for pursuer and pursued.

Well Fuuma/Kamui isn't anything because I think you can make a good case that Kamui's not interested. But "Kamui"/Kamui? That's straight up softcore BDSM, weeping and sexual bloodletting and fetish leather and latex bodysuits and everything.

Eh, you're right that you could within the bounds of canon choose to interpret Seishirou/Subaru differently, but even in the icons you and your RPing mate have, when they're together, Seishirou is always the one holding rather than being held, and taking a dominant posture. Given both that and the fact that they otherwise follow every yaoi trope out there to the letter - older/taller/manlier, smaller/younger/prettier - I could never take issue with someone who chose to write them as a stereotypical seme/uke in fanfiction. It follows canon closely enough. They're hardly butchering the characters, like so many other slash authors have to in order to twist them into those prescribed roles.

Were I still in the fandom I'd love to write a fic where Seishirou is just fucking sick of Subaru stalking him already and wants to get on with his life. Maybe he's straight. Maybe he's just not that into Subaru. What the hell is wrong with him? It's been like a decade. He'd call the cops if it wouldn't lead to uncomfortable investigations of his criminal activities...

...But I don't think for a second that's what CLAMP actually intended.

I'm not trying to argue that at all.

older/taller/manlier, smaller/younger/prettier - I could never take issue with someone who chose to write them as a stereotypical seme/uke in fanfiction.

I do because it's sexist. And it doesn't take their personalities into account at all and even those wouldn't be enough to draw conclusions about their preferences in bed. Maybe Seishirou or "Kamui" just really like it up the ass and that doesn't make either of them less of a bastard. But we can't know because they never have sex in canon.

Me and my RP mate would love pics of Subaru holding Seishirou. But no one's drawing that sort of fanart and the only pic where Subaru cradles Seishirou is when Seishirou is ... unfortunately not so well anymore, if you know what I mean. But in any case, Seishirou touches Subaru only twice in canon (X) and that's more sensual than sexual.
And, well, Subaru penetrated Seishirou at least once ... and Seishirou even Wished for that. ;)

For the last part of your comment, huh? I don't think that's what CLAMP intended either. But that fic could be potentially hilarious.

Well, CLAMP does not have, er, the best record with writing women and gender issues, especially in X so that wouldn't surprise me, no.

But in any case, Seishirou touches Subaru only twice in canon (X) and that's more sensual than sexual.

True, it's sensual, but he's the one who touches Subaru, whereas Subaru is the one being touched in both cases. Seishirou's being active, Subaru's being passive. Subaru's "marked" and "owned", Seishirou's the marker and the owner. And that's canon. If someone looked at that and decided to extrapolate that they took those roles to the bedroom, I wouldn't fault them. But no, we don't know for sure.

Someone who chooses to look at what we have in canon with Seishirou being active, put him in that role, and then the rest - how the characters conform to the stereotype in so many other ways - follows, they're not mangling them in the same way someone who takes two characters who very obviously and canonically do not conform to those roles and makes them do so just for the sake of filling the "seme" role and the "uke" role would be. Probably because CLAMP's as steeped in BL culture as any Japanese mangaka whose target is primarily female.

Of course I've only ever seen one Subaru/Seishirou fic and the author wrote it as a joke. Maybe there's a better fan interpretation out there.

Totally valid fannish preference, yes. Canon, no, and you suddenly seem to agree with that even though you started out by saying "it's canon, yo" which is the only thing I take one hell of an issue with.

Overwhelming fannish preference (hell, your icon's a plenty good example of nigh 100% of the S/S fanart out there) and one the authors heavily imply by making Seishirou always the active one when the characters touch, and by "feminizing" Subaru, putting him in the white kimono in the wedding pic, etc.

And you suddenly seem to forget the the Fuuma/Kamui part of that equation, lol. And how that's straight up BDSM dom/sub and "Kamui" is clearly in the dominant role. "They don't fuck, so nuh uh!" is a weaksauce argument when their interactions are clearly sexual. Of course they don't fuck. It's not porn. "Kamui" is still topping. He tops, and he fits the seme archetype to a T.

So shit's canon, yo.

Overwhelming preference for one thing doesn't suddenly make something right. It just means most fans enjoy the inherent misogyny. Which wedding pic though?

And I thought we already agreed on "Kamui"; besides, I'm not that interested in Kamui/"Kamui" as a pairing.

But no, for Sei/Su, nothing's canon yo.

The wedding kimono pic. The one where S/S are dressed up in traditional Japanese wedding attire and covered with red thread. I'm out of the loop, it was just called the wedding pic back in my day.

Okay, fair enough. I will specify that while "Kamui"/Kamui's canon, S/S is not explicitly canon - only heavily implied - next time ;p
