i admit i'm often nervous starting off playing multiplayer (esp with strangers) in games i'm more or less new to, but if you know the ropes already they i suggest going for it. the worst that could happen is that someone thinks you suck, and if they arent batshit insane with problems of their own then they'll forget about it within the hour

Have you tried the Spec Ops missions with a random online partner? If not, that might be a good way to test the waters for how you feel about it. You'll find the same mouthbreathing manchildren there but they tend to be more tolerable if they're on your side.

Remember that you can always disable voice chat. (The MW games are good for that, since they tend to be less team-focused. Unlike the BF games, where you live or die by the information your teammates can give you... I was once stuck in a BF3 match with a nine-year-old who'd make sucking sounds through his mouth every time he got a kill. It was so fucking irritating his teammates, myself included, stopped helping him, which made his kills fewer and fewer. So he compensated by making the sucking sound longer and longer. I had previously never understood that middle aged British man who drove to some kid's house and throttled him over a multiplayer match, but I did that day. Oh, I did that day.)

fuck CoD multiplayer. it's counterstrike for a new generation, with all the idiocy that entails.

stick with co-op games like left 4 dead, and drag your friends into it. you'll be happier.

My experiences with COD multiplayer are best when you can play with a group of friends in a party. That way you can suck as hard as you want and not have some tryhard yelling at you about it. Of course this doesn't work in the modes where party chat is disabled, though.

It's more fun with friends, so unless you're good at the game or have friends who'll play, don't bother 'cuz you're not missing much. I don't do much CoD multiplayer anymore because it's just not fun with all the damn 10 year olds.

Or, just try spec ops. At least you only have to play with one random.

I can completely relate. My Social Anxiety and Panic Disorders are so severe that I very rarely ever play multiplayer, and the rare times I do I don't chat/use voice.
