I actually hate when games don't have definitive endings. Like ToA. It still annoys me they ended on a "Lol you decide!" ending. I mean, really? Why not have two different endings then? Like in ToS. Ughhhh.

the tales of games are generally linear though, right? (i've never played them i'm just assuming lol)

i think linear games with few side quests and very little sandbox play are best left with definitive endings since there's not much of a point in letting people continue to play after the main quest ending without sandbox elements, imo

Tales of the Abyss has a lot of sidequests, actually. And there is gameplay past the finale. The costumes/Ultimate weapon quests for all your characters/The titles...etcetc

/SPOILERS BTW/

It ends with a character showing up-but they don't say if it's Luke or if it's Asch (One is a clone of the otehr, and they fuze together at the very end. You play most of the game as the clone, Luke)

I kind of agree with this. It depends on the game itself. If the game sets me up with thinking that they're going to tell me a story, I'm just along for the ride, and a lot of things in the story are answered eventually in a very straightforward manner, then yeah, I expect a straightforward ending. If they set it up otherwise, beforehand, like prepare me, I can take an ambiguous ending.

TotA was a bitch. They pretty much answered every little thing. Then that ending was an asspull.
