he's not "too much of a douche to play him" - he IS him. he's the only actor to play him. so fuck off and all that jazz.

This is what I don't get, either. Supernatural has only ever had one actor play Sam and it's not based on a previous work. Jared Padalecki's version of Sam IS Sam. How can he be too much of a douche to play Sam?

Maybe OP just means that they generally like the character, but that he "deserves" a less douchey actor to play him? That they like the idea of the character, but wish someone who they didn't feel is an asshole had the part?

Not into SPN, so I'm not biased either way.

Perhaps OP is one of those Jensen fangirls that perceives any positive feeling toward Jared as somehow lessening of Jensen? Some really do seem to suffer from a false dichotomy and can't seem to understand that people can like both of them
