Unskippable tutorials, especially when they're identical across three games of the series. (Or all games of the series. Pokémon, I'm looking at you.) Oh, and when NPCs ask you, 'do you know how to [thing]? You do? Let me explain it anyway!'

Luckily they SORTA did away with that in Gen 5 when the professor went, "alright!! Quick run down of catching pokemon!!" The she did it in like...15 seconds or so. Maybe 10 and bam, passed that bit and on we go!!! Plus, it was super, super early in the game, like the developers went "Alright, new comers need the tut, but lets make it fast cause the old timers are gettin' tired of this shit and so are we."

No more old men that need coffee that take FOREVER AND A DAY to catch a weedle!!

Yeah, Gen V still did a lot better on it, and there were less NPCs doing the do you know/let me tell you anyway dance, too, so that was a big improvement. There are still petty little frustrations here and there, but most of forced tutorial mode has been trimmed down. I'm hoping that sticks for BW2.

Unskippable tutorials are what killed my childhood obsessive tradition of thoroughly reading the manual before playing the game. Well, that and the lack of "the story of this game..." magicalness that used to happen. I know I can pick up most any game and it will teach me itself, either organically or through some mandatory time filler ARGH.
