Steve/Tony's been THE OTP in Avengers fandom long long long before the movies were a twinkle in anyone's eye. It's carry over, it's really that simple. Besides, ships have been built on far less than the tension between the two of them. *shrugs*

Yeah, considering how many ships have been built around characters that have barely or never interacted in canon, it's not that much of a stretch even without taking the comics into consideration :D

Exactly. I mean, the other huge slash ship in Avengers fandom is based on... what? One very brief conversation over a radio? lol It's not surprising at all.
