So don't be too hard on yourself. You won't know what you are truly capable of until a moment comes when push comes to shove and there's no-one else around to do it.
If it really bothers you that much, there are things you can do to learn new skills and feel less useless. Look around online and see if there are any wilderness survival classes you can take, CPR/First Aid courses going on, martial arts studios looking for new students, or even just grab a copy of The Worst-Case Survival Handbook from the bookstore.
