I'll wonder every now and then, what if my life was an adventure story? An rpg? What role would I take, if any, as a party member? And I can probably bet that I would never be the hero, because I'm just not heroic or caring of other people.

But I think someone who does have that instinct, or desire, to be one simply needs to get out and learn such-and-such skills to apply for whatever heroic task they want. Because skills are learned, yo. Except magic and stuff.

And hey, cowards turned to heroes on their path of development is one of the BEST tropes of fiction ♥ The cowardly flake who questions their contribution? That just screams "this character is going to be heroic!"
